Two Engineering Students Make A Remote Home Automation Controller

Nelson Cheruiyot and his colleague Brian Kipng’eno Towett are final year students at Jomo Kenyatta University of Science and Technology, taking Energy and Environmental Technology. As their final year project, they developed a remote home appliance control system. The system uses an application as well as a web-based platform that allows a user to control their home appliances remotely. The system assists in reducing energy costs, saving time, and avoiding accidents that may occur as a result of power surges at home.

The duo designed the system in school, using readily available materials that they say they sourced from online e-commerce platforms, then assembled it. They hope to upgrade the system after school and will be looking for funders to help them implement their idea in real life.
