We seek commission proposals from African-descent journalists, photographers, and content creators from Africa or the diaspora.

It doesn’t matter where you live; whether it’s a remote town in Europe or a suburb in Africa, Pin Africa is always eager to hear your stories, ideas, and views.

Pin Africa’s Editorial Formats

Below are the multimedia formats that can be be commissioned

Our videos mainly consist of short-docs (documentaries. These are 2-5-minute-long original journalistic documentary films that are usually human-interest narratives.

Other videos include original video content from spotlights, reports, etc. created by Pin Africa’s in-house or commissioned storytellers and journalists. They are hosted on Pin Africa or other third-party platforms to be consumed directly on the Pin Africa platform by individuals interested in stories of and around Africa. These are typically original stories of Africa and happenings within the African continent, told by Africans with the right context and nuances.

Our written format is intended for long-form journalism. Pitch ideas for feature articles, investigative reports, in-depth reports, analysis pieces, and current affairs are all welcome. Social justice, governance, politics, health, business, and entrepreneurship are of particular interest to the format's editors. Other subject areas, however, are also welcome.

For us, visual journalism is a creative craft we relish: it is the challenge of conveying information in a visually engaging and compelling way, by combining written reporting with infographics, photography, video and audio. It is about engaging all the senses.

Multimedia journalists and creatives are specifically encouraged to pitch. We would also like to hear from data journalist.

Photographs should be of high quality, packaged, and tailored for digital storytelling when submitted. Unless the subject is about history, stories and photographs should have been shot within the last two or three years.

Mobile Journalism format is produced as a 60-90 seconds vertical video story package - Content is created entirely via mobile phone. These stories, which focus on human interest subjects and solutions-based reporting, are entirely produced using mobile phones to optimise them for social media.

Our podcasts are a wide range of subject matter/genres through the lenses of Africans and the diaspora – from investigative journalism to oral histories, experimental fiction, immigration, health and more. We tell our audio stories through interviews, interactions, chats created with members of our community or special guests to keep reshaping the narratives around Africa and ultimately promote social justice. These are typically hosted on Pin Africa’s platform as well as third-party hosting platforms.

You should pitch here if you live near a breaking news event or are currently present at an event that you believe deserves media attention. Our goal is to publish breaking news and upcoming events as they happen, so that our audience may stay abreast of everything happening on the African continent and its diaspora.

Our Climate Change, Environment, and Health Desk is dedicated to raising awareness and informing audiences about the impact of climate change on the African continent.

Our aim is to provide a platform for innovative ideas that can help address climate change and its impact on the African continent. We welcome pitches from anyone, whether you are an established journalist or a first-time writer; we encourage you to share your story ideas with us and to be as creative as possible. We believe that everyone has a story to tell, and we are committed to amplifying voices that are often overlooked in the mainstream media.

We are looking for stories that are not only informative but also engaging, in all our accepted media formats. We welcome pitches that explore the human impact of climate change, stories that highlight the efforts of local communities, and ideas that propose solutions to the challenges we face. We believe that journalism can play a critical role in raising awareness about climate change and its impact on the African continent, and we are committed to doing our part.
