Mohamed is the commissioning editor for visual journalism at Pin Africa. He started journalism in high school as the editor in chief of a newsletter and worked as a breaking news reporter covering sub-saharan Africa in the newsroom of the journalism nonprofit Committee Protect Journalists (CPJ). His writings have appeared in publications including The New York Times, Foreign Policy, The Continent and Quartz. He also worked as a written storytelling trainer.
